Tour Overview

Mt. Fuji views, mountain
resorts, and healing waters

Just ninety minutes from Tokyo, Hakone is a celebrated mountain resort in western Kanagawa Prefecture, renowned for its commanding views of Mt. Fuji. The tranquil waters of Lake Ashi, the aerial crossing of the Hakone Ropeway above the volcanic Owakudani valley, and the region's legendary open-air hot springs offer an extraordinary concentration of natural and cultural beauty.

Our private Hakone tour offers a flexible itinerary tailored to your preferences, ensuring you enjoy the highlights at a leisurely pace. The Hakone Museum of Art — famous for its moss garden and classical ceramics — transports visitors into a world of serene Japanese aesthetic refinement.

The perfect conclusion to the day is a private onsen ryokan experience: soaking in naturally flowing mineral waters while gazing upon Mt. Fuji or Lake Ashi. This is what the Japanese consider the ultimate luxury — and we arrange it exclusively for you.

Highlights

Hakone's Signature Attractions

Hakone Ropeway

空中ロープウェイ

A 4-km aerial cable car ride from Owakudani over steaming volcanic vents to Lake Ashi. Panoramic views of Mt. Fuji, the Hakone mountain range, and the lake spread below — an unforgettable spectacle.

Lake Ashi

芦ノ湖

A highland lake at 723 m altitude, formed in the caldera of the ancient Hakone volcano. On clear days the perfect inverted reflection of Mt. Fuji shimmers on its surface. The lakeside torii gate and the old Hakone Checkpoint are equally rewarding stops.

Hakone Museum of Art

箱根美術館

The museum's extraordinary moss garden and classical Japanese ceramics collection draw guests into a realm of meditative beauty. The garden, sculpted over centuries, is particularly popular with international visitors seeking an authentic experience of Japanese aesthetic sensibility.

Onsen Ryokan

温泉旅館

Hakone is home to dozens of exceptional hot spring inns. We arrange a private bath session where you can soak in naturally flowing mineral water while contemplating views of Lake Ashi or Mt. Fuji — a privilege few visitors experience.

Japanese Bath Culture

Onsen — Japan's
ancient art of restoration

An onsen is far more than a bath. For the Japanese, it is a ritual of mental and physical renewal with roots stretching back over a thousand years. The mineral waters of Hakone vary by source and carry different properties and reputed health benefits. Your driver will guide first-time visitors through the etiquette.

Note: For first-time visitors, your driver will carefully explain onsen etiquette including towel use and bathing procedure. Yukata robes and towels are available at the facility.

Onsen Etiquette

  • Rinse first

Always shower and rinse your body thoroughly at the wash station before entering the communal bath.

  • Towel

Keep your towel out of the bath water. Fold it on your head or leave it at the wash area.

  • Quiet atmosphere

Onsen are places of quiet contemplation. Please keep voices low and phones away.

  • Tattoos

Some facilities do not permit guests with tattoos. We confirm this in advance on your behalf.
